Medifast Success StoriesOne summer, I returned home from vacation very ill. I went to my doctor and he said that there were only two ways to go, Medifast or the hospital. He told me I need to either lose weight or have the fluid drained from my body. He suggested that I do the Medifast program, and I told him that I could. He also told me to drink plenty of water. This was 5 years ago. I am 75-years-old now and still at the weight my doctor wants me. I was on insulin since I was 40-years-old, but now I no longer take insulin. I also no longer have to take 2 shots a day to get rid of my high blood pressure. I have lost 150 pounds and 8-10 dress sizes. I am doing great! I started Medifast Dec 3rd, 2005, stuck to it to the tee and lost 30 pounds in the first month. I'm now in my 6th week and have lost 42 pounds and 6 inches off of my waist. I started at 292 pounds and am now at 250 pounds. The “before” and “during” pictures prove it. After the first month, I started tweaking the program, cut out the Medifast bars which I felt had too many carbs and sugar and replaced it with smaller amounts of better, low glycemic index carbs and my weight loss has increased since on Medifast only. My sleep apnea doctor is the one who suggested Medifast. Since my weight loss, they have had to cut the pressure on my CPAP machine in half and my cardiac doctor has cut all my blood pressure meds in half and my blood pressure is still too low. I hope after 30-40 more pounds I will completely be off of my CPAP machine and off blood pressure meds. I have been on the Medifast program since February 2004 and have lost over 160 pounds. When I decided to go on the Medifast program, it was literally the final step before I resorted to a surgical alternative. It was my last hope. I choose to have one shake a day at breakfast and have four soups over the rest of the day. Anybody can do this program. Now, I can hear the excuses….”I can’t do this; I travel and have to entertain clients”. Guess what, so do I. It’s amazing how well this fits into a busy work schedule. When I have business dinners or even social engagements, I simply bring my soups along with me. When I’m asked what I would like for dinner, I request hot water in a soup bowl and spoon. There has never been a time that my request has gone unfilled. As a matter of fact, I went to Germany for eleven days during my program and was able to get a bowl of hot water everywhere I went. People are curious and will sometimes ask what I’m doing with the water, but no one is ever rude or discourteous. If anything, they are amazed at what I am doing and are very complimentary. When I am in the office, I simply put water in a hot pot and wait for it to boil; and then I have my soup. It’s just that easy! For many years, I hid from my friends and family because I was so disgusted and embarrassed with the way I looked. I would find excuses not to attend events, but missed out on so much; and they missed out on seeing me. My health also had deteriorated. I had been on blood pressure medicine for eight years. Within a couple of months on the program, my blood pressure normalized and I was able to discontinue my blood pressure medicine altogether. With every pound lost, I was literally that much lighter on my feet. I used to spend a lot of time trying to find the closest parking spot, but since I have lost the weight, I am able to walk everywhere with no discomfort. Medifast has, without a doubt, changed my life. I’ve always been outgoing, and now my self-confidence has returned and I find myself enjoying life and participating in activities I wouldn’t have been comfortable doing when I was heavy. For instance, I got up at my company’s holiday party and sang Karaoke the other evening! I would have never done that in the past because I would have been concerned that people would have been judging me by my weight. Now, all they had to do was judge me on my singing performance!! Not only have I achieved personal success, I have also achieved professional success. I never felt as though I was discriminated against in the workplace because of my weight; however, I have certainly become more visible since I have lost the weight and was recently promoted. Kind of ironic that I am more visible now that there is less of me! I am certain this is only the beginning of good things to come! Finally, Medifast has helped me to control my eating. Food no longer controls me; I control it. I now eat when I am hungry; period. Medifast puts my focus on listening to my internal body cues and has given me the time to determine how I will eat once I am off of the program. I will make healthier choices of what I put into my body. My goal is to lose 20 additional pounds. I stopped dieting for the summer because of a long family vacation to Florida. I am happy to report that from May to July, I gained no weight.
